Purchasing Support for Digital Social Care Records

Purchasing Support for Digital Social Care Records

NHSX’s Digitising Social Care Records programme has launched a new Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) to support care providers to buy from an assured list of digital social care record solutions. The DPS enables quicker, easier, and more informed purchasing processes. Due to the nature of the DPS new suppliers will continue to be appointed creating a vibrant market of solutions for social care providers to choose from.

A Digital Social Care Record (DSCR) allows the digital recording of care information and care received by an individual within a social care setting, replacing traditional paper records. DSCRs are person-centred and enable information to be shared securely and in real-time with authorised individuals across the health and care sector. Key functionality found within a DSCR system includes creating, editing and amending care plans; task management and comprehensive reporting for information sharing to support the operational management of a care setting.

The adoption of digital social care records gives the opportunity to free time spent by care workers and managers on administrative tasks whilst equipping them with the information they need to deliver care. Digital social care records are a tool to enhance and improve the quality of care and not replace direct care. They will play an important role in joining up care across social care and the NHS, for example, digitisation of discharge from acute care into social care resulting in efficiency improvements and reduction in errors. Further information on interoperability standards can be found here https://theprsb.org/standards/adw/.

Social care providers can consult an assured list of software supplier solutions before entering into a contract with a supplier. Through the DPS social care providers can be reassured that their preferred solution has met a minimum level in relation to both functional requirements and standards. Over the coming months, the DPS will be supported by the further development of buyer guidance, including online masterclasses, and local hands-on support to help social care providers through the process of buying and implementing a digital social care record.

We have information, guidance and supporting documentation available to support anyone who would like to utilise the DPS and access the accredited supplier list.
