Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) update 2020/21 – what has changed for Standards Met?
Date: Tuesday 19 January 2021
Location: Zoom - online
The National Care Forum (NCF) has developed a series of practical ‘crib sheets’ to help care providers of all sizes make the best use of digital technology.
Care providers are increasingly highlighting the importance of their staff and residents being digitally enabled and confident. The current COVID-19 pandemic has made this even more vital.
However, the latest UK Consumer Digital Index 2020 report states that an estimated 7% of the UK population are still offline. Age and vulnerability are significant factors with 77% of over 70s having very low digital engagement and 44% of those offline are under the age of 60.
NCF’s crib sheets are designed to help both staff and residents with the skills needed to get online and to enjoy using technology. They are grouped into three key themes including basic skills, connectivity, and wellbeing and resilience.
From getting access to the internet, using social networks, video calling and supporting staff and residents, the guidelines can help you to take advantage of digital tools.
The guidelines are simple to use and written in plain English to ensure they are straightforward to understand and accessible to all.
Vic Rayner, Executive Director at the NCF, said: “Digital skills are becoming increasingly important, but as research shows, many older people are not always confident to get online by themselves.
“It is absolutely essential that people are not excluded from the benefits that the internet and digital technologies can have in their lives, simply because they lack the skills to get online by themselves.
“This is the reason why we’ve developed the crib sheets, to help care providers support their staff and residents with essential digital skills, to make sure that everyone who wants to has the opportunity to be connected, included and supported in using technology.”
