What is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a piece of EU legislation.
It came into force in the UK from 25th May 2018. This law gave people new rights about their personal data. It has high requirements for transparency and accountability. GDPR requires more effort from organisations to prove compliance than past data protection legislation. Each care provider organisation must show that they are complying with the law.
